Nurlan Nayipov
Nurlan Nayipov is a pensioner and former traffic police officer. He was detained in connection with the July 2022 protests in Nukus, Karakalpakstan, which were triggered by proposed constitutional amendments that threatened the region's autonomous status. His trial was transferred from Karakalpakstan to Bukhara in 2023. He was convicted of producing, storing, distributing, or demonstrating materials that threaten public safety and order. Originally sentenced to 7 years, his sentence was reduced to 4 years on appeal.
