Atai Beishenbek is a well-known civil activist, blogger, and public figure. He was detained in connection with the October 2020 protests and the October 2022 Kempir-Abad reservoir protests. He faced charges including organizing mass riots, illegal occupation of buildings, and calls for the violent seizure of power. While he was acquitted in the first instance and again in June 2024, his case has been subject to appeals and he has been held under house detention.
