During his 2016 detention, he underwent surgery and participated in a 9-day hunger strike which led to a serious deterioration of his health. His health in the current 2022 case is reported as generally stable.
Kubanychbek Kadyrov is a politician and public figure, leader of the “Chyndyk” (Truth) party, former member of parliament and former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He has been involved in two major political cases: the “Eldik Parliament” case in 2016 and the “Kempir-Abad” case in 2022. In the 2016 case, he was arrested for allegedly preparing to seize power by force while criticizing the government. He served time and was released in 2019. In 2022, he was arrested again as part of the “Kempir-Abad” case, following protests against a border agreement with Uzbekistan that transferred the Kempir-Abad reservoir to Uzbekistan. He is currently in pre-trial detention.
