Zhenish Moldokmatov is a politician, public figure, and Chairman of the “Turan” Democratic Party. He was initially arrested in connection with the October 2020 political unrest in Kyrgyzstan, facing various charges including organizing mass riots and seizure of power. Although he was acquitted of these charges by the First May District Court of Bishkek on December 6, 2023, he was arrested again on October 23, 2022, as part of the 'Kempir-Abad' case involving protests against the transfer of a reservoir to Uzbekistan. Moldokmatov has undergone multiple hunger strikes to protest his detention, leading to critical health issues including heart, kidney, and stomach problems. He has been held in SIZO-1 and Correctional Facility No. 47. He is currently under house detention related to the Kempir-Abad case while the matter is under review in the city court.
