He was detained in connection with the Kempir-Abad case, where he maintained he was present only as a journalist covering protests regarding the handover of the Kempir-Abad reservoir to Uzbekistan. He was accused of involvement with the 'Committee for the Protection of Kempir-Abad'. He spent 1 year and 8 months in pre-trial detention (SIZO-1) facing harsh conditions, including lack of medical care and overcrowding. Although acquitted by a court on June 14, 2024, his case remains under review in the second instance as part of the broader Kempir-Abad case. He is currently under house detention.
