Rustam Dosymbetov

Rustam Dosymbetov was detained on 7 July 2022 in connection with the Karakalpakstan unrest. He was part of a group of 39 participants whose trial took place in Bukhara starting in February 2023. The protests were triggered by proposed constitutional reforms affecting Karakalpakstan's autonomy. Authorities treated the demonstrations as riots, while critics view the prosecutions as politically motivated because they target protest participants.
