Nusret Bauetdinov

Nusret Bauetdinov is a resident of Kanlykol District, Karakalpakstan. He was detained on 21 July 2022 in connection with the 2022 Karakalpakstan unrest, which involved protests against constitutional amendments threatening the region's autonomous status. Bauetdinov was prosecuted as one of 39 participants in the unrest during a trial in Bukhara that began on 6 February 2023. While authorities characterized the events as riots, observers view the prosecutions as politically motivated. His sentence was later reduced by the Supreme Court from 7.5 years to 5.5 years on 12 June 2023.
